Welcome to the Lair of the Sonic Infidel
¿
Everyone has someone they look up to and admire, and every musician is influenced by someone, whether they'll admit it or not. My influences are many and varied, and they fall into two categories.
Category One: Conventional. This includes all influences related to conventional (non-computerized) music.
-John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. The best drummer. Ever.
-Bill Ward of Black Sabbath. Another great drummer.
-Jack Johnson. Great guitarist, and an excellent lyricist.
-Cake. That band is hilarious and yet insightful. What a winning combination!
-Over the Rhine. A soulful, earthy band, very compelling.
-Barenaked Ladies. They may be Canadian, but they still rock.
-Rush. (See above.)
-Justin Smith. Learning bass in such a short time is one thing. Learning it well is another. He kicks the bass's ass.
-There are others, but I don't remember right off hand who they are.
Category Two: Electronic. This includes all influences related to computerized music.
-Armin Van Buuren. Quite possibly the best trance musician I've ever heard. Absolutely moving.
-Ruki Vehr. Russian techno artist specializing in dance. Russian techno is bad as all get out. (However bad that is...)
-Moby. He's a little bit liberal for me, but the music is great nonetheless.
-Paul Oakenfold. Good steady techno. Always an interesting listen.
-Chemical Brothers. If you like the music from "Snatch," you like the Chemical Brothers. Enough said.
